So, we have about 12 days left here on Statia. Pearl and I are starting to pack and get things ready to go so Darcy can focus on studying and prepare for his block 3 exams and finals. Woof.
Now that it's December 1st, I can listen to Christmas music all the time and Darcy won't threaten to divorce me again. {that might have been in August}
Some of our final island plans include the following:

Watch every sunset - and most likely take pictures of each one
Spend as much time on the beach as humanly possible
Get our immigration crap done so we can leave, legally
Pack - and hope that Pearl won't come along and unpack everything
Clean our house - so it doesn't look like it's been neglected for years
Go to the beach some more
Hike the volcano one more time
Take a picture with all of the loaded Rastafarians
Watch Home Alone - okay, that can come later
Inhale as much of this salty, humid air that I can, while I can*

*To me, it's the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Disneyland mingled with The Silver Strand ;)

Well, we've been on our tiny island of Sint Eustatius for about 20 months now. ☼ We have been counting down the days until we head back to civilization. As of today, we have only 30 days left on The Rock.

Living on Statia has been one of the most memorable and humbling experiences of my entire life. We have made so many incredible memories here that we will cherish forever.

Pearl was a year and a half when we arrived; a baby. ♥ She has changed SO much, it's unbelievable. She is an independent, extroverted, beautiful little girl. I am excited to see how she adjusts to life back at home.

I have made a list of things to do tout de suite! They are things I want to do/hike/see & photograph before we leave! And yes, I have already started organizing, packing, and getting rid of most of our shtuff. It's awesome & I love moving.☻There, I said it.

The thought of leaving this beautiful place fills my head with mixed feelings. We are ready to go back; yet it's hard to leave. We each have special things we will miss; amazing friends we have made, the beautiful & mysterious ocean that we have L.O.V.E.D., precious time we have shared as a little family, et cetera, et cetera {omg you have no idea}. I hope that Pearl will be able to remember this amazing journey.

Christmas is coming soon, and that makes me giddy like a little child. ☺We will be spending it at my parents' house in Nevada. Frozen, freezing, {OH NO, what the hell are we doing??} frigid, Nevada. It will be QUITE the climate change --- for all of us. Pearl doesn't remember what snow is like, or what wearing pants is like --- well, any clothes for that matter. This might be interesting.

Darc has only a few more weeks of school, a few BIG tests, then some much needed and well deserved rest! Vacation --- boarding at Tahoe, catching up on movies {we missed a lot in two years} & going to a THEATER, REAL FOOD including, but not limited to: In 'N Out, Olive Garden, and Port of Subs, naps, reading for pleasure, shopping, driving around IN A CAR, & family time.

Welp, that's all for now. I'm sure I'll post an update before we leave. CRAZY!!

Sooooo,
Today, Darcy started his 5th and final term on the island! Wahoo!! We have really loved our time here, but we're also excited to lead normal lives again! We will be home for Christmas {already counting down} and stay with
The Lyns for a few months while Darcy studies for, and takes his first USMLE test. After that, he will start his clinical rotations. Yay!!

Maybe I'll keep this up . . . oh, just maybe. ;)

So I'm trying to study right now. Just thought I'd let you all know. This semester I'm taking Biochem, Physiology and Neuro. Everyone says this is the hardest semester but I can't imagine it getting any easier! So far so good, I'm starting to get into the habit of studying because as many of you know I've never really had to do much of it to get by, at least during my undergrad anyway. I'm not saying this to be cocky, that's why I said "get by"!
Other than that things are swell. My Canada student loans are finally falling into place, so I can pay for my education, feed my family etc.! Lianna and Pearl are loving life of course, just hanging out going to the beach with Jessie and coming to visit me at school which is a special little treat of course. Pearl is the darling of the school, everyone knows her name and she pretty much owns the place when she walks in the door!
Anywho, short post, but that's the gist of it. We're missing everyone of course and can't wait for Christmas break!

So we've been here on Sint Eustatius for like 2 months now... it's hot. By the by, this is Darcy, I feel like I have to say that because I generally don't do this. So, school is going well, I feel lucky that my degree (that I almost finished) was in Health Sciences because most, if not all, of the classes I'm taking this semester are pretty much review. I'm enjoying it though and still learning a lot. I'm told that 2nd term is the worst of the 4 so, looking forward to that!
Some people will be grossed out by this but my favorite thing is Anatomy lab where I get to dissect the human body, I never thought I would be ok with this, let alone enjoy it but it's amazing, the human body that is. My group is very good about letting me do most of the dissection as I seem to enjoy it more than anyone else and I've had some good feedback from the professor who used to be a general surgeon back in India, which is always encouraging.
Lianna and Pearl are enjoying it here, pretty nice that immigration doesn't allow anyone to work here so they get to just hang out, enjoy the island life, and hopefully make me a sandwich! Haha, jk, I can make my own sandwich... Pearl is getting so big and speaking in complete sentences here and there, she is so independent. Whenever we let her walk anywhere she fights pretty hard not to hold hands, but Statia drivers are insane and try to drive as close as possible to people and sometimes hit them. So I will be looking for a cheap car once my student loans snafu if finally figured out! Ha, seriously, I applied for student loans in January and still don't have the money in my account!
Anywho, that's it I guess, we'll try to be better about posting on this thing, I guess I should do it more since I started it! Lianna is in charge of the pictures, I don't even know how to use our camera anyway!

so it's true, we're preparing to move to the caribbean next week. we visited darcy's family in canada for a few weeks and had a great time. now we're staying with my parents in NV until we move. we have had SO much going on, it's ridiculous [hence the last post was in jan?].

i promise to be a better blogger once we settle down in our new home!

sooo, darcy participated in our community polar bear swim this morning. he raised money for the make a wish foundation and jumped into the literally frozen reservoir . . for . . . fun. ?!?!?!

there were probably 200 people who showed-up for the event. it was about 30 degrees, snowing and sleeting off and on. they got a bunch of snow on the mountain last night and everyone was driving up the hill at a snail's pace. we had to 4x it near the top cause the conditions were so bad.

anyways, here are some sweet sweet pics from this morning. including 20+ of darcy getting in and out of the frigid lake. :) hehe

we woke up this morning to this:

and it was beautiful!! pearl ran up to the back door and exclaimed, "NOWING!!!" [snowing]

we shoveled the driveway and our front walk too. it was awesome. i'm not even kidding- i was so excited to do it!! pearl loved being outside and enjoyed it as well. :)

pearl was talking to grandma jensen on skype tonight and we taped a bit of it cause it was hilarious. she kept tilting her head and talking really close to the screen. she started typing something too in the middle of the conversation. :) also, she sang gma a little song and we DIED. SO CUTE. [not on the video though, sorry]

**in august, we went to art in the park it's an annual tradition now. :)

**pearl & i went to g'ville for a week in september to visit gma & gpa! the highlights included going to the candy dance; binging at in 'n out with dan, laurie, & their boys; eating more at el charro; and driving to beautiful apple hill in camino, california. we had a wonderful visit and got to spend some time with old friends.

**october 8th was a great day. darcy's birthday was simply celebrated with a cake and an acappella solo.

**little did he know... i had been planning and stressing over a surprise party for him the next day. he got off work at 8:15 and was tired and tired. :) we had planned on going "on a date" and our friends were set to watch pearl. when we arrived at the party, he was SHOCKED and pleasantly surprised. it was a poker party, hence the cake. a few minutes later, once everyone settled down, kelsey & jake walked in!!! darcy's sister and her husband drove from rexburg for his b-day. it was the best part of the party! kels & jake stayed the weekend with us [bonus number 2] and we had an awesome time. darcy had NO CLUE i was planning anything. thank you, thank you. :) i'm a good liar. what?

cuz you probably should be. this is the longest posted blog EVER.

we have had a lot going on this summer!
EVENT #1:
in july, we went to see gma & gpa crossman in gardnerville, nv. we spent a few days at their place and went camping with them in manzanita lake, ca. there was a big family reunion on my dad's side and it was a ton of fun. it was gorgeous weather and the campground was amazing. there was a cute shop, a quick bike ride away, that sold tall cones of soft serve. it was awesome.
pearl had been acting a little sick when we were in g'ville and had had a low-grade fever for about a week. we hoped she was getting over whatever it was.
well day 2 into our camping extravaganza, her fever got A LOT worse and she was not herself. she was super lethargic and was snuggling me!?!? i know, what? the only time she snuggles me is if she's really sick or outrageously tired. she was burning up and was constantly falling asleep. this continued and i knew she needed to see a doctor. so, long story short, we drove to redding and had to visit the ER cause everything else was closed. she had an ear infection and was just a tiny mess. she was a lot better within a few days.
anyways, here are some pics from that trip!

EVENT #2:
um, pearl's birthday!!! pee pee turned ONE on july 24th at 6:14pm. hehe i'm not kidding. i'm just kidding. not kidding. just kidding.
here are a few shots from the big bash.
[the big bash consisted of a last-minute cupcake purchase from the albertsons bakery; over-priced, dried-out cupcakes with some kind of nondairy frosting; an unhappy birthday girl who was kept up till 9:30 pm just so her stubborn mom could say that she had a "cake" on her birthday; and 25 + minutes of cleaning artificial food coloring from every surface and body part imaginable.

EVENT #3:

canada.
we drove to satanthony to spend the night at vicky & mike's [jessie's parents] to split the drive into two trips. pearl became instant friends with penny, jon & jessie's dog. penny followed her around and licked her relentlessly.
we spent the first few days in waterton, which was redic. it was so amazing and beautiful, as always. pearl slept perfectly in our tent and we couldn't have been more grateful!
we stayed in lethbridge for a few more days before heading home. we had a great time with darcy's family!

one of the oil refineries in edmonton was struck by lightning and there was a shortage of gasoline

oh yeah, our alternator died on the way home. 105 degrees, desert, baby, no cell service. i know. . so fortunately, the tahoe died near a construction zone and the people were really understanding. they charged our battery for a while and we drove straight to get it fixed. we had to leave everything off including the a.c. to reserve power. we eventually made it home.

SO much has happened since our last post!
first and foremost, pearl is learning to walk! she can walk the length of our living room by herself. it's so exciting. she isn't confident enough yet to let go and start on her own. she is getting a little better every day.

funny story: we were grabbing some grosh the other day, and i put some peaches in the cart next to pearl so i could grab a bag. i turned around and she had grabbed a peach, and was shoving her face as if she hadn't eaten in days. i couldn't help but crack-up! there was juice running down her arms, dripping from her elbows. her shirt was instantly drenched. there was no way i was about to take it away from her, cause it was so funny and cute. she ended up eating almost the whole peach. oh, pearly. : )

It turned out to be a pretty sweet place and as you can see it really doesn't look like Idaho at all. Enjoy.

well, pearl decided to be crazy today and wound up in the er.

we were hanging out in our bedroom and she was walking around, holding onto our bed, dresser, you name it. all of a sudden, an outrageously loud CRACK startles me. she was laying flat on the ground, with our huge box fan on her FACE. i didn't think too much of it, until i realized she whacked her head on the sharp edge of our platform bed frame, on her way down. blood started pouring from her tiny nose. WHAT? i know. she didn't calm down and was crying really weird. she seemed lethargic and was in a lot of pain.
i immediately called darc, who was at work, and he said to take her to the urgent care 1 block from our house. they looked at her and sent us to the er because it was a "head injury".
the dr was amazing and prompt. meanwhile, pearl had perked up a bit, enough to show off for the nurse by saying every word she could. he said she looked ok- probably not a broken nose. we are going to watch her and see if she does anything out of the ordinary and see her pediatrician tomorrow for a follow-up.
pearl wound up with a huge goose egg on the back of her head with a deep scratch, a black eye[eye brow], a red swollen upper lip, and her first bloody nose.

this morning, i left pearl in the front room while i grabbed some clothes from her bedroom. when i came back, she was STANDING, holding on to her tub of toys, taking them out one-by-one.
she has been cruising for a while, but has never pulled herself up! now that she has figured it out, she won't stop! it has been an interesting day, baby-proofing "as needed." oh my dangerous, wish us luck

so pearl has had an awesome week. her teeth are coming through, and she's starting to feel better!
she has been eating more finger foods too; she tried chunks of avocado, cantaloupe, pears, bananas, and peas. i am so grateful that she is not picky!!! she has liked almost everything she has tried!
pearl has a dr. appt this friday. i am excited to see how much she weighs and how tall she has gotten.

pearl has been sick with a bad cold for over 3 WEEKS! ugh. last week, she came down with a bad fever and had it for a few days, so we took her to the dr. again. she has bronchiolitis and a bad ear infection. poor jujy---she has been SO lethargic, fussy, and miserable!

after being on her antibiotic for 2 days, she is starting to feel better and i couldn't be more GRATEFUL!!! so thank you, amoxicillin!

PEARL HAS A TOOTH!

like 4 days ago, i felt a hard ridge flush with her gums. it has totally started to erupt and it's SO EXCITING!!!

she's been a bit fussy, but not too bad.

well, it's been a WHILE to say the least.
we've been so busy with funerals, road trips, families, and bottles.

enough is enough.
a few weeks ago we switched pearl to her new hypo-allergenic formula, similac alimentum. it was a nightmare for about 24 hours; she screamed bloody-murder, missed several meals, threw fits, and was miserable! when she finally gave in and started drinking, i burst into tears --- of joy. it was so difficult and stressful! within a day or two, she was excited to get the bottle and didn't protest. i am just grateful that i was able to breastfeed her as long as i did, 4 months.

k, pearl is so noisy! it's awesome.

This is Darcy, apparently I have to say that cause I'm not usually the one doing this. And yes there are 2 syllables in both Pearl (Pear-el) and swirl (swir-el), j/k mom. So our computer is being retarded boo PC's! Our SD card reader is not working so we will have to replace it or buy a new computer. I, of course would like to just replace it since it is already a year old anyway but Lianna probably just wants me to get a new reader. So anyway, no new pics for the time being.
We did find out yesterday that Pearl has an allergy to milk protein. She's been really fussy for some time and the doc just attributed it to acid reflux and colic (the favorite catch all disease for infants!) but now she had a bloody diaper (hope that wasn't too graphic) so we went in and they tested it and she's allergic. So now Lianna has to cut out most of the delicious foods that we normally enjoy everyday! Sucks to be her, I'd do it with her but I don't eat very well as it is and I'd probably die. She can't eat anything that contains any milk proteins, whey, cassein, blah-blah-blah, it's almost like having celiac disease. So she'll do that as long as she can stand it (I'm taking bets if you want to pick a date) and then we'll go to hypoallergenic formula from there on out.
Other that that things are going well, school is school, It's finally starting to cool down around here, and the spiders are making there annual migration into our poorly sealed apartment, hooray for winter. Also there is an ice-cream truck (creepy la rouche) that drives through our neighborhood like every day.

so we went to "art in the park" yesterday. it's kind of like "candy dance" for nevadicans. : )
pearl was a trooper and did awesome in her front-carrier. the weather was perfect; we had a great time shopping, eating local vendor foods, and listening to the live music.

So Pearl is doing better every day, thank you Axid! She slept for 4 hours last night, longest stretch ever! The faux-hawk is still in full effect Kels, we're gonna have to start using gel soon cause it's getting pretty long. Anywho, the reason for this post is that I experienced the best thing ever this morning while we were napping on the couch so Lianna could catch some z's. Out of the blue she starts smiling in her sleep and then just busts out laughing for like 10 seconds, funniest thing I've seen yet! It was pretty dang cute. So that's the story for the day, enjoy!

pearl went to the dr this week & she has a little colic and reflux. poor little thing. the meds are already starting to work! yeah for axid. she is so funny when we give her the "BABY NUM NUMS" as we call it. she sits there and lets it pool-up in her mouth and smiles at us. oh yeah, it tastes like chemicals/acid/bubble gum. mmmm.

yeah, this week pearl has been smiling more than ever; and it's not from gas. loooove it. btw, she has moved up to 3mo size and size 1 diapers. weird. 10 heavy pounds of solid baby delight.

ps. pearl and darc really do have a nap together everyday [though darc doesn't always sleep] and he reads her a story every night. it's pretty awesome. : )

Alright, here's another wicked awesome post from me (Darcy). Not a lot of new pics really but that's cause we're either sleeping, trying to sleep, trying to get Pearl to sleep, rocking Pearl to sleep, sleep walking, ... you get the picture. She's great but still likes to party all night and sleep all day, good times. Also, some pictures have me in like a g-top so not postable, I don't want anyone calling the mo-po on me. That's right - mo-po (mormon police), I totally just made that up once again proving how awesome I am. Also, I changed a diaper, usually I just assist but I actually did one by myself, this may disgust some of you and thrill others, take it as you will.

So, here's another feeble attempt at blogging from me (Darcy). Lianna went into labor on the 24th at about 1:30 am, good times. We sat at home til about 7:30am then went to the hospital and she was about 3cm so they admitted her. She got to about 5cm on her own then they started the pitocin. She got to about 6cm and then the contractions were starting to be too much and I still had to talk her into the epidural! So then she went from a 6 to 10 in less than an hour, crazy. She pushed for about 2½ hours and finally out came little Pearl. Oh yeah, her name is Pearl Elizabeth Jensen. Pearl is a family name on the Tolman side (duh), and Elizabeth is Lianna's grandma Crossmans name. So 3 days later we're home. Mother and baby are doing great. As you can see she's got an amazing head of blond-blond hair La Rouche! For some reason we were both expecting darker hair so it was a sweet surprise. Also, she weighed in at 8lbs 1 oz and was 20 inches long. She's amazing, who knew you could just instantly love a little thing sooo much. Yeah, I'm cheezy. Anywho, this aint really my thing, Lianna will add more later.
